HIGH summer is a brilliant time for Flat racing fans. We have just had a brilliant Royal Ascot and Derby – now on to Glorious Goodwood where the clashes between the generations start to happen.
Talking of which, it was sad to see Frankie Dettori getting the blame for Stradivarius not winning the Ascot Gold Cup. True, the Italian may well have given the old boy a better ride, but he was beaten fair and square on the line.
Only the great Yeats has won the Gold Cup as an eight-year-old in living memory so the size of his task was massive.
You can bank on Frankie to make that a distant memory by the end of the season. It will be a much quieter sport without the exuberant Italian around so let’s make the most of him rather than moaning.
We have a comprehensive review of Royal Ascot and our speed figures to help interpret the form.
