The John Smith’s Cup is run over a trip of 1m2f at York racecourse each July and to many older racegoers might still be known as the the Magnet Cup. It’s one of the first races the well-known John Smith’s brewery backed, with their association starting back in 1960. Since then, they’ve remained loyal to the race ever since – with this event now having the longest-running sponsorship association with a flat race in the world.
