Regular readers of this column will know I am a big fan of Boardman but it’s almost impossible to put him up when he races at Chester given his running style. Therefore from a low draw I like the claims of FOOLS RUSH IN who seems to love this course. Now in the care of Hugo Palmer he returned this season with a respectable effort at the May meeting showing he is clearly in good heart. Appearing to go on any ground he just looks a really solid bet at the prices and I’m sure he will give you a run for your money.
Two horses who didn’t give me a run for my money recently were WOVEN and ALREHB who were beaten at York and Ascot respectively. The former is a hold up performer who just couldn’t lay up to the leaders on the Knavesmire on ground that would have been plenty quick enough. He should be more at home here at Haydock where he has run well before and he certainly isn’t an 11/1 shot if back on song.
Similar comments apply to Alrehb who ran a blinder here two runs ago when just being caught by the progressive Boardman. He drops back a furlong here which shouldn’t be a problem to him and I expect him to be handy which should give us a good chance of getting in the money.
Chester 3.45 – Fools Rush In
Haydock 4.05 – Woven / Alrehb
