I had LORD PROTECTOR marked down as quite an interesting horse at the start of the season. Wins at Windsor and here at Salisbury confirmed his promise before he got outstayed back here again over further despite travelling like the best horse. It’s easy to forgive his run at the July meeting at Newmarket as so many horses disappoint there and after being freshened up I expect a much better performance here today.
WHITEHAVEN and his connections have probably been eyeing up a busy Autumn campaign and now that the rain has arrived I expect him to do quite well. A mark of 79 doesn’t look insurmountable and he showed his love for soft ground last time at Haydock when just getting touched off by a horse on an upward curve. With Andrea Atzeni booked today I suspect connections are hoping for another bold show and I think he is weighted to go close.
Salisbury 4.42 – Lord Protector
