It’s the first day of the Glorious Goodwood festival today and with such a long week ahead it may be wise to take it steady today. With that said, I do have quite a strong fancy on one in the opening race.
Paul Cole’s MAJESTIC DAWN has been bought along steadily so far in his career but his win in the Cambridgeshire last year suggests he may be ready to make the step up to graded company sooner rather than later. I did fancy him at Newbury a couple of weekends ago but he was a late withdrawal that day, however I see no reason not to fancy him again today. He shouldn’t mind the ground and the weight shouldn’t be too much of a problem as I don’t think this race is as deep as it normally is. I think he is a group horse and if I’m right he should go close here.
The Lennox is a fierce race this year and any number of them could win it. With the ground riding on the soft side I’m keen to take an each way punt on ESCOBAR. He confirmed his well being with a gutsy fourth at Sandown recently and I think he has been waiting for a bit of softer ground to be seen at his very best. He has saved some of his best performances for the Chichester track which gives me plenty of confidence today with the ground in his favour. He might just surprise a few.
