It’s hard to ignore DOCTOR PARNASSUS today at Newmarket after the form of his last race worked out so well. He pulled clear with Tashkan and Kondo Isami at York and both have boosted the form in no uncertain terms since. A 41 day break since that run suggests he may have ran into a small hiccup but with James Doyle booked to ride David O’Meara’s only runner at Newmarket today, he looks a standout bet today.
I couldn’t believe my luck when I snatched 11/1 about HARTSWOOD at Newcastle last night. Richard Fahey’s horse has been a reliable sort in the some really hot handicaps in the past 12 months which included a third in the Hambleton handicap a few weeks ago. That is top form which should see him favourite here but a ‘0′ next to his name after his run at Redcar last time seems to have put punters off. It was easily forgiven in my view and I’m sure he will bounce back today.
Loyal readers of this column will know how keen I was on Didtheyleaveuoutto at Nottingham a few weeks back and as a consequence I am keeping a close eye on the form as the front three pulled clear. Lady Isabel who finished second has since hacked up at Brighton and that was enough to convince me that DEREHAM certainly has a win in his locker. He looked progressive after his Yarmouth victory and as stated I think the Nottingham third is as good as a win. At 12/1 he looks to have been overlooked.
Newmarket 2.25 – Doctor Parnassus
Newcastle 3.10 – Hartswood
Nottingham 4.30 – Dereham
