It’s a decent day’s racing today at Newbury and there are a few I fancy. If short priced favourites are your thing then I think Hoi Polloi will take some pegging back but he is a bit short to be put up as a tip in this column.
HOWLING MILAN is a little bit short considering how competitive the 3.35 is but his run last time out is very strong form and a repeat of that will see him bang there. Sam Drinkwater’s charge has been knocking on the door for a while now and has an unfortunate knack of throwing a race away. He doesn’t have a temperament but he does suffer from misfortune. A final flight fall here at Newbury last year cost him his day in the sun but he looks to be on a mark and in a vein of form which should see him go close today.
I’m taking a chance on SANTON in the 4.10 as his run at Doncaster was good enough to warrant a second chance. He disappointed last time at Wincanton but I’m happy to blame the ground and he returns to the track with his stable bang in form. He survived the Trevor Hemmings sell off so connections must hold him in some regard and his run behind Bobhopeornohope is strong form. The better ground should suit here and Alex Thorne’s 3lb claim should come in handy.
Newbury 3.35 – Howling Milan
Newbury 4.10 – Santon
Saturday
I’ve been keen to see EATON COLLINA entered up in a handicap since he initially received a mark of 114. Kerry Lee has freshened her exciting novice up since his last run in a novice at Hereford and I am expecting a big run from him today at Newbury. Lee thinks plenty of this horse and his form stands up to close inspection. His opening mark looks lenient and I think it’s telling his trainer has waited until a Saturday at Newbury to unleash him in a handicap.
Newbury 3.05 – Eaton Collina
