Four National Hunt meetings make for fantastic Thursday

Wednesday saw Newcastle lose its battle with the elements however all four National Hunt meetings look to be given the green light for an excellent day of jump racing action. The afternoon’s feature comes from Thurles with Don Cossack and Champagne Fever meeting in an excellent renewal of the G2 Kinlock Brae Chase over two and a half miles.

Novice with bright future Sugar Baron stars at Newbury

There’s a fabulous card this afternoon at Newbury, with promising second season novices’ Dawalan and Cole Harden successful on the corresponding card last term. The latter is 16/1 with BetVictor to give trainer Warren Greatrex a first Cheltenham Festival success in the World Hurdle at the festival in the spring.

Mick Appleby hoping for a terrific Tuesday at Southwell

It must be sodden down in South Wales to have Ffos Las abandoned, leaving this afternoon’s action from Fakenham and Southwell respectively. The latter looks sure to go ahead irrespective of the weather forecast and could prove yet another successful day on the fibresand for locally-based trainer Mick Appleby.

Ayr’s meeting this afternoon has been abandoned with weekend storm’s causing structural damage to the track’s buildings. With the weather forecast unlikely to improve clerk of the course Emma Marley deemed the track too unsafe, leaving this afternoon sole jump meeting at Plumpton.

Intense Tango should go one better at Catterick

Catterick stage an excellent card this afternoon and there was plenty of money on track for Intense Tango (12.40) in a decent listed race at Aintree on his hurdles debut for Karl Burke last month and this 70-rated performer on the level should go one better in the opening juvenile hurdle.

Nicky Henderson has saddled the last three runners-up of the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle however his Tolworth Hurdle winner L’Ami Serge was cut to 5/1 (from 10s) with BetVictor to go one better for the trainer after roaring to success in the weekend’s feature at Sandown.

John Ferguson’s dual-purpose animal made a winning debut over timber last term before disappointing thereafter, albeit in much higher grade.

Warwick and Uttoxeter need to pass late inspections to race this afternoon however jump racing looks sure to go ahead at Punchestown, whilst there’s action on the all-weather from Lingfield. Should racing get the thumbs up at Warwick then Venetia Williams’ Super Sam (1.20) would have obvious claims in the handicap hurdle over three and a quarter miles.

Today’s feature action comes from Haydock, where Kilgeel Hill (3.10) can continue his progressive profile in the novices’ hurdle over two and a half miles. Last year’s renewal saw Urban Hymn lay a marker down for the upcoming festivals and Oliver Sherwood’s son of Oscar can do likewise after his impressive victory earlier this month at Leicester.

Jezki tipped for clash with Hurricane Fly at Leopardstown

Hurricane Fly and Jezki clash for a 6th time in this afternoon’s Ryanair Hurdle at Leopardstown with the score currently reading Hurricane Fly 3 v 2 Jezki after ‘The Fly’ recorded a 20th G1 success in the Morgiana Hurdle last month at Punchestown.
