I am a forgiving punter at the best of times but I really have to be today if I’m putting up TRITONIC at Goodwood. Alan King‘s charge has been a frustrating horse to catch right throughout this career but there is no doubting he has the talent to win of these big handicaps. He trailed home last at Ascot last time when new headgear didn’t have the desired effect and that has been swiftly removed here. I think the key to him is good ground but he has never had the chance to run on good ground when actually being reasonably handicapped until today. A mark of 93 looks a lot more realistic and with this not being the strongest renewal of the race I am more than hopeful he can outrun odds of 20/1.
The Golden Mile will undoubtedly throw up a winner which bites me on the rear end but I’m hunting for value today and I think TALIS EVOLVERE represents just that. He has only disappointed once this season which was at the Royal meeting but apart from that he has run some good races in competitive handicaps. He has had to carry his fair share of weight in those races so he should appreciate carrying a few pounds less today and the step back up to a mile should see him in a better light after his staying on 6th over 7f in the Bunbury Cup.
I’m putting two up in the 5.20 as I quite like both and they both are good prices. SUN GOD has plenty of stamina in his pedigree and with that in mind I think he will improve plenty for the step up to 1m 4f today. He has done all of his racing over shorter so far and he has performed admirably considering just how much stamina is in his family. A mark of 83 looks exploitable and today might be his day. Similar comments apply to GIVE IT TO ME OJ who is bred to be a better than a mark of 80. Gary Moore will undoubtedly have targeted this meeting with some of his better flat horses and this lad looks threatening off bottom weight. He could take a big step forward now faced with handicaps.
Goodwood 1.50 – Tritonic
Goodwood 3.00 – Talis Evolvere
Goodwood 5.20 – Sun God / Give It To Me Oj

Not a lot jumps off the page at me tomorrow but I do like two in the Stewards Cup. APOLLO ONE rarely runs a bad race and last year’s second could go one place better tomorrow. He didn’t seem to appreciate the drop to 5f in Group 3 company last time out but should be much more at home over 6f here. 18/1 is a disrespectful price for a horse so consistent.
Similar comments apply to SUMMERGHAND who needs no introduction. A legend of a horse and a former winner of this race, he looks weighted to strike again soon. I think he is better over 6f than he is 7f so I am keen to forgive him his poor run at Ascot last weekend. If he can get the breaks here I think he could go close at 20/1.
Goodwood 3.35 – Apollo One / Summerghand
