Bens Tips for Day Two of the Glorious Goodwood

We were about level after day 1 of so hopefully we can get our noses in front on Day 2. The opening race looks wide open and judging on yesterday’s races you wouldn’t want to be too far off the pace. Worrying for me as I am on the Jamie Spencer ridden CLOCKMAKER but hopefully he doesn’t go full Jamie Spencer on him today. David Simcock’s charge was a big eye catcher on debut when chasing home the hugely talented yet ill fated Hidden Law. He wasn’t quite right on his next run as it was too bad to be true but he showed improved form last time out at . I doubt he was fully wound up there given it was his last run before the handicapper assessed him so an opening mark of 80 could be well within his reach. He looks value in an open race.

The Oak Tree Stakes should be at the mercy of JABAARA on form after her gallant second at recently. Roger Varian’s filly has come on leaps and bounds this season already and the step back down in trip and grade should see her get her head back in front. If she misfires however I think BREEGE looks a solid alternative. John Quinn’s filly has some top form in the book especially over this trip. She finished second in the race last year and although she has to give weight all round, I think the race could set up perfectly for her to go well.. 9/1 this morning looks value.

My best bet of the day comes in the Molecomb where I can’t get over the price of CELANDINE, who has the best form in the book. There is plenty of 13/2 around this morning which rates good value for a filly who has won 2 nice races already this term and finished a close third in a Group 2 last time out. She does drop a furlong in trip today but she has always shown plenty of pace in her races so that doesn’t worry me and away from that I can’t find any reason why she wouldn’t go close today.

1.50 – Clockmaker

Goodwood 2.25 – Breege / Jabaara

Goodwood 3.00 – Celandine
