BEN`S TIPS Friday & Sat

It's been a great week so far and we have landed plenty of
winners. With just two days left I'm hoping we can continue the streak and go
out on a high. Three tips from for today and first up is CELESTRAN for the yard.
After this free going horse won at Yarmouth on seasonal reappearance I think he
went into plenty of notebooks and looked destined for better things. A below
par run here at Goodwood followed and a subsequent defeat at means he
still lines up here off 88. Although defeated there was plenty to like about
both runs; the Goodwood form looks strong although I don't think he was at his
best that day and the Ascot run was solid, he was just faced with an impossible
task conceding so much weight to a progrssive type. I think he still has plenty
of mileage left in the clock and his trainer doesn't have many exposed
handicappers in his yard so expect him to go close in what isn't all that
strong an event.

                It's
been a quiet week for Frankie so far but I'm hoping he can burst into life on
day 4 as not only do I fancy Celestran, I also like his second ride, VALERIA MESSALINA, for the Jessie
yard. This filly caught my eye in the Irish 1000 Guineas as she had
the field off the bridle whilst still travelling powerfully a furlong out. She
faded badly in the final furlong with Harrington suggesting she didn't quite
stay the trip and that excuse seemed reasonable given she won next time out
over 7f at . Her presence here is telling as Harrington doesn't send them
over to Goodwood for a holiday as her runner proved yesterday, almost winning
at a big price. With Frankie jumping off Wasmya to ride I think she could be
well worth an each way punt at a decent price.

                Loyal
readers know the regard I hold LIBERTY
BEACH
in and I really hope she has her day in the sun today. She ran a
blinder at Ascot but just found the stiff 5f in the Kings Stand a step too far
but still finished 3rd. She then got collared late on at after hitting
the front a decade early at a stiff track like Sandown. Back at the scene of
her most dominant performance I anticipate her to get a lot closer to Battaash.
This speedy 5f will be right up her street and I can see her running a huge
race at favourable . It's worth remembering Battaash isn't one to rely on
at cramped odds and he is due a below par run so don't be surprised to see John
Quinn's flying filly reverse that Ascot form.

Goodwood 1.10 – Celestran – 1pt e/w

Goodwood 1.45 – Valeria Messalina – 1pt e/w

Goodwood 3.15 – Liberty Beach – 1.5pts e/w

SAT

It's lining up to be a relatively steady Saturday for me as
there isn't anything jumping off the page. Having said that, I simply have to
have a punt in the Stewards Cup as I wouldn't be much of a tipster if I didn't.
I'm playing two at a price and first up is last year's second OPEN WIDE for local trainer Amanda
Perrett. He lined up in last year's race off 95 and he probably would have won
an average renewal but unfortunately last year's race was taken by future Group
horse, Khaadem. With that in mind though, you have to give him a big chance of going
one better this year off a 3lb lower mark. His form isn't inspiring but you get
the feeling this race has been the plan since he crossed the line in second
last year. I worry his hold up style is unsuited to how the sprint races are
playing out this week but from stall 12 he should be able to follow the best
side and get a good tow into the race.

If the pace doesn't collapse then
I should still have a chance as I'm likely to have a punt on TERENTUM STAR who showed more of his
old vigour last week at . It's been a while since we have seen him put in a
run like that which hopefully means he is coming back to somewhere near his
best. I'm hoping that run will have given him a bit of confidence that he might
just need and it's worth remembering his trainer has been known to take the odd
sprint around here.

My next tip is a question that I
get asked most days. ANYTHINGTODAY looks
handicapped to win of these races having shown plenty for new trainer Roger
Fell in recent starts. I backed him in the John Smith's Cup at York and was
counting my money as he sauntered into the race on the bridle 2f out.
Unfortunately he couldn't sustain his challenge in what was a muddling race
(winner excluded). He does look of interest back in these calmer waters with a
top apprentice, Angus Villiers, in the saddle. I have no prices to go off but
I'm hopeful he will open up at quite a tasty price.

The last tip is given purely
because I've tipped her twice this season already but she has yet to make it
into the stalls so if I don't tip her, she's bound to go in. ROSADORA is clearly a quirky horse but
I'm hoping once she starts a race she might prove herself to be quite a
talented horse too. She was a tough two year old and given how Ralph Beckett is
looking after her this year by not just chucking her in anywhere, I'm thinking
she has trained on and she is on quite a lenient mark. If she enters the
stalls, she wins…I think!

Goodwood 3.35 – Open Wide     –
1pt e/w

  • Terentum Star – 0.5pts e/w

Goodwood 5.10 – Anythingtoday – 1pt e/w

2.40 – Rosadora – 1pt e/w
