Kameko comes through and wins 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket; Pinatubo left in the dirt

If you had asked the majority of people which horse would win
at on June 6, they would likely have spoken of Pinatubo before any
other competitor. The horse has been unbeaten and remained a favourite for a
long time. In fact, many people opted to back the horse as sports bettors, even
through options like the Bet9ja
app
, which allows mobile sports to take place. It's something that
you simply download through your mobile device and it adds an icon to your home
screen. Then, you can place on your favourite and races from any
location you want.

However, despite the fact that Pinatubo was many peoples'
favourite to win, it was beaten to the finish point by the horse Kameko, ridden
by Oisin Murphy. Granted, this may have only occurred by a neck, but it means
that Pinatubo has experienced its first loss and Kameko has made history for
itself in the process. Not only that, but the victory set a new track record of
1 minute 34.72 second, overshadowing Mister
Baileys's record from 1994
.

And as it happens, Pinatubo still didn't manage second
place. That went to the 15-2 backed Wichita, trained by Aidan O'Brien and ridden
by Frankie . Pinatubo was left to finish the race in third position out
of a total of 15 horses.

It stands to be quite the victory for Kameko on other levels
too, as the horse was beaten by a neck over the very same course and distance
last September. The last time Pinatubo won an event at Newmarket was in October
2019, when it beat Arizona by two lengths on soft ground over seven furlongs.

Events Taking Place Behind Closed Doors

Horse is once again taking place, but behind closed
doors, and even in these circumstances, the favourite at Newmarket wasn't able
to cross the finish line first. Yet, Murphy managed to celebrate his first
British with Kameko, exclaiming that it means “the absolute world to me.
It's the stuff of dreams.”

Murphy went on to say that Kameko ended up getting a little
bit lost around four furlongs, but managed to pull it back and bring the
victory home in the end. “It was a gutsy performance. He hardly blew a candle
out afterwards – he must have a tremendous amount of ability”, he finished off
when speaking of Kameko.

Now that trainer Andrew Balding has experienced a first
Guineas triumph, Kameko has gone on to become the favourite to win at the
on July 4. The trainer has won the Oaks before, which took place with Casual
Look in 2003
. Now, the brother of popular television presenter Clare
Balding, said that it looks like Kameko is the obvious choice for .

Meanwhile, trainer of Pinatubo, Charlie Appleby, said that
his horse “travelled well into the race when he has Frankie's horse as his target”,
however, Pinatubo made his move and “got up to their girths”, but just didn't
manage to make it “any further forward”. Appleby still managed to win the Group
One Coronation Cup with Ghaiyyath on Friday, though.
