Aidan O’Brien says he could send Peaceful to next week’s Royal Ascot if she shows no ill effects from Saturday’s Irish 1,000 Guineas success.
It was a night to remember at the Curragh for the Ballydoyle trainer as he enjoyed a four-timer featuring victories for Lancaster House, Magic Wand and Snow, with Peaceful putting the icing on the cake with her triumph in the feature contest.
The Galileo-sired filly had only won once in three starts in her maiden campaign but looked a much-improved three-year-old when hitting the front outside of the furlong marker and coming home with plenty still left in the tank.
The next target for Peaceful was thought to be the Investec Oaks at Epsom in July, for which she could clash with stablemate and English 1,000 Guineas winner Love, but O’Brien says she could turn out before then.
Discussing her next target, O’Brien suggested the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 20 wasn’t out of the question.
O’Brien told the Racing Post: “If she came out of this well, you’d have to look at the Coronation, especially if the ground was nice there. We thought some of these fillies could back up in it. The ground is on the slow side in Ascot at the moment.
“Epsom has to be a possible for her. The lads will decide, but it has to be a possible for all those fillies. We knew he had nice three-year-old fillies at the start of the season. They are Galileo fillies and we are just so lucky to have them. They are beautifully bred, big, rangy, scopey fillies and they get better and better.”
