YESTERDAY was a very busy time out on the gallops at Newmarket
and a 6am start out there for me, there was a touch of frost early but it soon
warmed up to the sound of birdsong and a real feel of spring in the air. As you
see in my photo I got a lift up the gallops in Sir Michael Stoute‘s horsebox
where HIGHEST GROUND was asked to really stretch into his bridle and do strong
work, he was asked to quicken up and go past his lead horse which he did in
nice style. SANGARIUS also showed himself to be in fine form and look a real
prospect for the Freemason Lodge team this season. VERACIOUS has stayed in
training this year as a five-year-old and the daughter of Frankel is showing
she has improved a great deal with the winter over her back.
JOHN Gosden had Frankie Dettori in yesterday to ride work and
the combination of the Italian aboard PALACE PIER impressed in their work, the
son of Kingman, owned by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum looked a class
act as he moved clear of his lead horse and quickened away in style on a tight
rein. ENCIPHER is a lovely three-year-old colt by Siyouni in the Gosden string
working well out on the gallops here at HQ and is rated highly at the
Clarehaven yard. MAHOMES is a very nice juvenile colt by Dubawi out of The
Fugue in this yard that is starting to catch my eye in his work out on the
gallops, he look a horse with a bright future already.
DAVID and Jennie Simcock have their string very forward at their
Trillium Place yard on Birdcage Walk, they have had ALMANIA sent to them to
train, this son of Australia was previously with Sir Michael Stoute and is
nicely handicapped and is sure to pay his way this term. DURSTON a son of Sea
The Moon is working like a really progressive type in the string currently and
judging on his work recently will have a good season for this team.
Keep well everyone – daveyoungman@btinternet.com
