The governing body of French flat and steeplechase racing has announced that they plan to return to action in France from May 11.
Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, racing around Europe has been postponed and there has been no horse racing action in France since the suspension was confirmed on March 17.
But there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel for the racing industry, after France Galop revealed that they plan to welcome back racing behind closed doors from Monday, May 11.
French racing officials are looking at recommencing racing next month with with strict regulations, including having just the trainer, jockey and one groom permitted on the racecourse for each runner.
A statement from France Galop said that the measures would last “as long as necessary”, but trainers and owners in France will feel content that they have a date to prepare for.
Officials though have stated that horses and jockeys based outside of France will not be allowed to race until at least the end of May – with a fixture list due to be released later this week.
