Dettori excited for Royal Ascot

Frankie says he cannot wait for as he aims to make up for missing the illustrious meeting last year.

A shoulder injury ruled the jockey out 12 months ago but he's gearing up for it this year and will hope to saddle several winners.


Royal gets underway on and Dettori is looking forward to tasting the atmosphere although he admits he's nervous about an injury repeat this weekend, when he has three rides elsewhere.


“Ascot means everything so not being able to take part last year was hard to take,” he said in the Post. 


“It was a year ago today that I broke my shoulder at and I´m wrapping myself up in bubble wrap to make sure I get to Ascot.” 


“I´ve got three rides before Ascot; two on Saturday and one on Sunday.”


Cracksman is Dettori's leading fancy in the Prince of Wales's Stakes at the meeting, while he is also set to partner Calyx in the Coventry Stakes, Without Parole in the St James´s Palace Stakes and Stradivarius in the .


Dettori added: “Royal Ascot is our Olympics. The is one race, after all. But at Ascot it´s 30 races and covers the whole spectrum of distances, ages and sex. It?s very hard to win there and everybody wants to win there.”
