Ascot aim for Thundering Blue

Trainer David Menuisier says Thundering Blue is likely to compete at Royal if the conditions suit.

Thundering Blue secured a win at last week in his second race of the year and Menusier says a return to that racecourse could also be on the cards.

The five-year-old also seems set to head to – providing the ground is not too fast.

“There's a little bit of time to think about which race at Ascot. He's come out of his race fine and I'll decide in the next few weeks,” said Menuisier, as reported by Sky Sports.

“There are a few options, obviously, but it will also depend on the ground. If it was rattling fast, I wouldn't be keen on running him so it's all up in the air.

“We think he'll stay a mile and half so we do have more options now.

“He looked impressive at York. We may look to stepping him up in class, but we also have to consider the John Smith's Cup back at York in July. He's a course and distance winner and a strongly-run 10 furlongs will be good for him.

“We've no idea what the weather will be like in four weeks. Two years ago it was soft at Royal Ascot and last year it was rattling, you just can't predict it.”
