General Principle secured overall glory in the Irish to hand trainer his first victory in the race.

However, that was until he put the brakes on approaching the final fence, a mistake that allowed the chasing pack to close in.


It was General Principle who was able to capitalise on that mistake under the stewardship of jockey JJ Slevin and the result certainly pleased Elliott, who had not regarded the nine-year-old as one of his leading contenders.


Elliott said: “He wasn't one of my leading , but it's great to win. He ran very well in the race last year (finished fifth), JJ gave him a great ride and it worked out great. I'm delighted.”


Another of ' runners Isleofhopendreams finished a close second behind the winner, while the Edward Cawley-trained Forever Gold claimed third-place.
