Sandown finale for Cue Card

will make the final appearance of his career at on April 28, owner Jean Bishop has confirmed.

It was speculated that the 12-year-old would be retired after he pulled up in the Ryannair Chase at the earlier this month.

However, trainer Colin insisted that Cue Card would race again and his final outing will be on the final day of the jumps season in a month's time.

Bishop and Tizzard had discussed the possibility of taking Cue Card to for one last bid for a Group One win in the Melling Chase.

But the pair have decided on the the Grade Two Oaksey Chase at Sandown, which Menorah has won for four successive years since its inception – including his swansong race last April before retirement.

Bishop said: “We decided on Sandown. We just thought it would suit him because it tends to be a small field for that race and it gives him a bit longer with the prospect of some nice ground.

“It's the last day of the season, too, so it's a nice place for it all to come to an ending.”

She added: “It's quite fitting he will end in a race that has only been won by Menorah, so far as he had quite a few good races against Menorah. Hopefully it will end the same way for us.

“He's been incredible. It makes no difference now but he wasn't even four when he won the Bumper – he was foaled at the end of April.

“Like them all he has had the odd problem in his career, but touch wood, he has come through them all without missing a lot.”
