Fleming reveals Cheltenham hopes

Alan Fleming is hopeful of securing some success at the Cheltenham Festival with Tully East leading his team of five.

The Curragh trainer enjoyed success with the eight-year-old in last year’s Close Brothers’ Novices’ Handicap Chase and he is happy with the weight of 11st 3lb given to him going into next week’s action at Prestbury Park.

Tully East enjoyed a strong run when finishing third in the Patricks Park at Leopardstown a month ago and Fleming is hoping he can secure a win in the Brown Advisory & Merriebelle Stable Plate Handicap Chase.

“I was really happy with the weight Tully East has got, so fingers crossed he can run another big race,” said Fleming.

Fleming is also hopeful about the chances of As You Were in the Coral Cup, Foxrock in the St James Place Foxhunter Challenge Cup Open Hunters’ Chase, Hurricane Darwin who will feature in the Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase and Champayne Lady in the Trull House Stud Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle.

“I’d say those five are OK to go,” he added.

“As You Were is going for the Coral Cup Handicap. He was also in the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle as well but he’s going for the Coral.

“All being well he gets in. He’s number 40 so he has a chance of getting in.

“We’ve a nice bunch of horses going to Cheltenham, so it’s exciting.

“Most of the horses going over there want goodish ground, good to soft would be grand. We’ll be going there hopeful.”
