Fascinating Rock sent to stud

have paid tribute to Fascinating Rock after the decision was made to send the five-year-old to Ballylinch Stud.

The son of Fastnet Rock enjoyed a solid career, with Group One triumphs in the Champion Stakes at and the Tattersalls at the .

He won eight of his 15 starts and was placed on another three occasions, with his last outing a second-placed finish in the Group 3 Kilfrush Stud Royal Whip Stakes at the Curragh.

Fascinating Rock was trained by Dermot Weld and ridden in every race by Pat Smullen, and the Rosewell House handler had nothing but praise for his former charge.

“Fascinating Rock was an outstanding horse to train. He defeated the best in the world from to Found,” he said. “A good stakes winner over a mile, he had the ability to carry that speed to win two Group One races over 10 furlongs.

“He has great conformation, size and scope and a lovely temperament.”
