John Francome has not changed his opinion that Victoria Pendleton is an “accident waiting to happen” despite her maiden victory.
Pendleton claimed her first victory under Rules when guiding Pacha Du Polder to victory at Wincanton on Wednesday when she made all the running to smash the field.
The 35-year-old claimed two Olympic gold medals in a stellar cycling career but has now switched saddles and hopes to ride at Cheltenham later this month.
Seven-time champion jumps jockey Francome had already said his piece about how dangerous it is for a novice to ride at Prestbury Park and, when asked if he felt the same after her win, the 63-year-old was unmoved.
“Absolutely, yes,” he told PA Sport. “Every time she gets round in one piece, I’m absolutely delighted, but I’ll leave it to the people who are advising her.
“She won, and I’ve done nothing but wish her well.”
