We’re always eager here at Newbury Racecourse to bring racing action that you and everyone attending with you will remember for all the right reasons – and that is certainly in prospect over the weekend of Saturday 16th April and Sunday 17th April.
Yes, we’re referring to the 2022 Dubai Duty Free Spring Trials Weekend, which promises to be a special one this year for quite a few reasons – not least the return of crowds on this weekend for the first time since 2019.
The weekend will mark the start of the flat season, so quite a lot of enthusiasts have had this one marked on their calendars for a while, among the other eagerly anticipated 2022 horse racing fixtures scheduled at Newbury Racecourse for the months ahead.
So, what can you expect if you do join us over the Saturday and Sunday this year?
Saturday 16th April: welcoming back the spring in style
You might imagine that the main draw of the first day of the 2022 Dubai Duty Free Spring Trials Weekend would be the horse racing action itself, and you would be quite right.
The order of running on the day is set to include no fewer than seven races, with great Group 3, Class 2, Class 3, and Class 4 encounters expected, encompassing the likes of the Newbury Spring Cup, the Dubai Duty Free Stakes, and the Dubai Duty Free Millenium Millionaire Handicap Stakes.
But in truth, as enthralling as we all know the racing itself will be, you might be just as likely to join us on the Saturday in order to immerse yourself in the rest of the family fun we have planned. After all, we’ve got a lot to make up for after the last few years!
So, expect all manner of exciting activities and opportunities for yourself and any young ones accompanying you – including book signings, talks, and even the chance to meet a jockey and a retired racehorse. If a Saturday at Newbury doesn’t give you and your entourage the horse racing ‘bug’, nothing will…
Sunday 17th April: continuing on with the family fun
Moving on to the Sunday, we should probably point out at this stage that both the Premier and Grandstand Enclosures here at Newbury will be open across both days, so it isn’t just the horses that will be roaming. And as will be the case on the Saturday, Sunday will be full of both breath-taking racing and highly accessible family fun.
As far as the first of those things is concerned, the racing is set to begin at 14:10 with the Class 4 Joe Mercer Memorial Newcomers’ EBF Maiden Stakes, and continuing over the course of the afternoon to the likes of the Class 2 Dubai Duty Free Handicap Stakes, and the Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup British EBF Conditions Stakes, the latter a Class 3 contest.
And the family fun… well, what fun. The activities we have planned for the Sunday will differ a little from those on Saturday, with the likes of Easter Egg crafts, face painting and even a petting zoo set to capture imaginations between the races throughout the day, after the gates open at noon.
So, what are you waiting for? Tickets for both days of the 2022 Dubai Duty Free Spring Trials Weekend are available to buy online from us right now, so we would advise you to move quickly to avoid disappointment!
