The Gold Coast Magic Millions is right around the corner and Soaring Ambition has placed its claims after a thrilling come from behind win in the Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic on Wednesday, 15th December 2021.
Soaring Ambition backers would’ve been ripping up their tickets as the filly turned wide into the straight and looked absolutely no chance of winning. However, she found a lane in the straight and didn’t look back on her way to an impressive victory. She beat home Miss Hellfire and Wealthy Investor. Meanwhile, the $3.30 favourite Hell I Am finished 5th.
After Soaring Ambition started at odds of $101 for the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast, she’s now into $11 for the January 15 race. Even the major Australian horse racing betting sites online couldn’t predict such an exponential increase on the odds for Soaring Ambition – indeed soaring with a lot of ambition. This kind of odds change is a rare occasion, especially in horse racing where the stats of each horse are known well way before the race, and it takes a drastic event to make this kind of odds change.
Soaring Ambition is trained by Annabel Neasham and she would’ve enjoyed her Wednesday at the Wyong track with a nice double. She also trains Wisdom Of Water, who took out Race 4 at the meeting. Neasham is originally from Croughton, Northamptonshire and travelled to Australia in 2016. She began her career under the tutelage of the best Australian trainers in Gai Waterhouse and later moved to Caulfield to link up with Ciaron Maher. She worked with Group 1 quality runners and learnt the ropes under Maher’s guidance.
With this experience under her belt, Neasham decided to take up the challenge of a solo training ground at Warwick Farm beginning in the 2020-2021 racing season. As a result, she’ll hope that Soaring Ambition can become one of her best in the stable and that starts with a win at the Magic Millions next month.
Tommy Berry was aboard Soaring Ambition for her debut victory at Wyong and he rates her as a good chance to upset her rivals in the Magic Millions. In his career, Berry has won three Golden Slipper’s and he’s also experienced at the Magic Millions with a couple of winners. So we should back his judgement.
If Soaring Ambition can take out the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast, she’ll become just the second filly to win the Wyong 2YO Classic-Magic Millions double. In 2014, Unencumbered was the first filly to achieve the feat. Then in 2016, Capitalist (stallion) followed up with the Wyong/Gold Coast double.
Soaring Ambition’s biggest challenges in the 15th January race will likely be the current favourite Coolangatta and Bright Blue Sky. Interestingly, Coolangatta is trained by Ciaron Maher and as mentioned, Neasham was previously working with Maher earlier in her career. So both trainers will definitely be eager to get a win over each other, just for bragging rights.
If you’re keen to check out the odds or place a futures bet, most Australian bookmakers will have odds and betting markets available via futures markets. Just look for “Magic Millions 2YO Classic” and the big race will take place in January, 2022.
