Global Giant set for Bahrain chance
Trainer John Gosden has confirmed he will enter Global Giant in the Bahrain International Trophy.
The Gosden-trained Turgenev finish second in the £500,000 prize race last year, ending up just behind the French-trained Royal Julius.
Now, the trainer is planning to go one better and has earmarked Global Giant for the 1m2f contest, which is due to take place on November 20.
Entries for the lucrative race close on Tuesday but Gosden says the plan has always been to send the five-year-old to Bahrain.
He will warm up for the November race on Saturday in the Group 3 Darley Stakes at Newmarket as he attempts to shake off the disappointing showing at Haydock last month.
The Clarehaven handler is confident he will be well equipped to win in Bahrain and says the poor Haydock run was purely circumstantial.
Gosden said: “Global Giant’s in great form. It’s been the plan all year to go to the Bahrain International and we’ve been very happy with him.
“He got stuck in the mud last time ? they overwatered and then the rain came at Haydock ? so we weren’t pleased. It was in the middle of a heatwave and we wound up running on sticky, soft ground, which wasn’t what it was meant to have been at Haydock.”
