The best of today’s action comes from Leicester and a chance is taken on Alla Svelta (1.10) in the feature two and a half miles handicap chase for Brendan Powell and son Brendan Junior in the plate. The 8-y-o returned from an absence of over three years last month at Cheltenham and despite disappointing that day remains unexposed and with plenty of untapped potential. The selection was rated as high as 130 when trained by Evan Williams and looks a fascinating runner from a 15lb lower mark on his debut over the larger obstacles.
Richard Johnson is an eye-catching jockey booking for Caroline Bailey’s Carli King (2.10) in the three miles’ handicap chase and brings excellent course form to the table. The selection was an impressive 10l scorer at the track last term and followed up over course and distance from a 7lb higher mark thereafter. The 8-y-o ran a blinder on his seasonal reappearance chasing home Guiding George last month at Doncaster and he looks set to follow up from a pound higher mark.
Tom George Henri De Boistron (2.40) can use his 6lb weight-for-age allowance to good use to land the 2m handicap chase under Paddy Brennan. The 4-y-o receives 6lb weight-for-age from his rivals and with a run under his belt already this term is a confident selection to put his form over hurdles to one side.
There’s excellent action from Hexham and It’s High Time (1.50) looks sure to justify likely favouritism for Lucinda Russell and Wilson Renwick in the 2m Novices’ Hurdle. The son of Kalinisi bolted-up over course and distance last month and looked likely to follow-up under a penalty three weeks ago before falling three out. He clearly thrives at the track and can cement his status as one of the north’s leading novice in a race won last term by subsequent G2 scorer Seeyouatmidnight.
The stable can double-up with Blenheim Brook (1.20) in the feature three miles’ handicap chase under regular pilot Peter Buchanan. The selection was rated as high as 133 two seasons ago and was far from disgraced on his seasonal reappearance at Perth, before disappointing in a much stiffer contest three weeks later at Kelso. The handicapper has dropped him a pound and in much lesser company, can return to winning ways.
There’s excellent all-weather action at Kempton Park with Remembrance Day (3.40) fancied to bring Les Eyre from off the cold list in the opening 7f handicap. The filly wears a tongue-tie for the first-time after finishing fourth on her handicap debut two months ago at Wolverhampton, building on promise shown in a trio of maidens. The stable haven’t had a winner since former BetVictor Racing Club horse Bob’s success in the ‘Legends Race’ at Doncaster in September however the Major Cadeaux filly looks poised to run a good race from a 1lb lower mark.
The Middle Distance Final over 1m 3f looks a fascinating renewal, pitting together a host of in-form all-weather specialists. Godolphin are double-handed with Solidarity and Anglophile and both receiving 4lb from their elders, however in such a competitive handicap age and experience could come to the fore and Grendisar (6.20) can give weight and a beating to his 13 rivals. Marco Botti’s colt returned from a break to score at the track under last month and failed to follow-up in listed company three weeks later. Despite running from a career-high mark he is undoubtedly the best horse in the race and can go in again under regular pilot Marin Harley.
