Trainer Paul Nicholls has his string in good fettle and his As De Mee (1.00) can follow-up the Ditcheat handler’s Paddy Power Gold Cup success in this afternoon’s opener at Plumpton. The selection runs in a first-time hood after racing too keenly last month at Worcester and looks sure to go close under Sam Twiston-Davies, in receipt of 7lb from main danger Seedling, successful on debut for the Warren Greatrex stable earlier this month over course and distance.
Uxizandre won the corresponding novices’ chase on the card en-route to G1 success at the Aintree festival and Oliver Sherwood‘s Deputy Dan (1.30) is another novice with a bright future over fences and can land a competitive renewal under Leighton Aspell. The selection chased home Paul Nicholls’ 146-rated hurdler Virak on his chase beau last month at Fontwell however jumped well re ultimately being caught out in the closing dash for home. He can make amends on the forecast heavy ground, likely to better Mark Bradstock‘s G2-winning hurdler Coneygree and Nicholls’ talented Far West. The selection was second in the Albert Bartlett at the Cheltenham Festival and appeals at 33/1 with BetVictor to go one better in next year’s RSA Novices’ Chase.
Jackie’s Solitaire (2.30) looks well handicapped to run a big race after a pleasing reappearance last month at Chepstow and can get his head in front in the handicap chase n the card over two and a half miles. The winner has since ran well chasing home Venetia Williams’ Howard’s Legacy on his next start and Anthony Honeyball’s mare can make amends from a pound lower mark under regular partner Denis O’ Regan.
At Leicester. Alan King’s Gone Too Far (2.50) can shed the maiden tag over fences, after failing to fulfil his initial promise over timber last term. The selection fell on his chase beau earlier this month at Sandown but always looked the type to thrive over fences and can make amends in style. The King stable remain in good nick and despite being winless in his last five starts the 6-yo can come good this afternoon over the larger obstacles at the second time of asking under jockey Wane Hutchinson.
King and Hutchinson can double up with Miles to Memphis (3.50) in the closing 2m novices hurdle, bidding to unbeaten record and make it four from four for the Barbury Castle inmate. The selection looks different class to his rivals and is likely to be Cheltenham bound in the spring for the festival; 33/1 and 25/1 with BetVictor for the Supreme and Neptune novices’ hurdles success respectively.
There’s all-weather action from Wolverhampton where James Bethell’s Mister Bob (3.10) look sure go close in the stayers’ handicap over two miles. The 5-y-o is a confident selection after a smooth course and distance success last month and despite a 7lb hike for that success, remains in excellent form and should go close under Graham Lee.
Lee can double up with Jeremy Noseda’s Nightlight (3.40) in the following 7f maiden; a Pivotal filly on all three career starts thus far. She can shed the bridesmaid moniker this afternoon however and looks excellent value to make it 4th time lucky at the forecasted 2/1 with BetVictor. The filly ran a blinder to chase home John Gosden‘s well-backed Gharaneej over course and distance earlier this month and that sole piece of form puts her head and shoulders above this afternoon’s rivals.
