Premier Thursday Racing Comes From Exeter

By Charlie McCann

The recent rains have arrived in time for a cracking jumps card at and Regal Presence (3.20) needs good ground, has gone well fresh in the past and ran a cracker here back in March over C&D when just touched off from a 6lb lower mark. The Victor Dartnall camp were largely out of sorts last season but have been in better form of late and this son of Presenting always promised to make up into a decent chaser.

Caulfields Venture finished a short head in front of the selection over C&D back in the spring but is 8lb worse off at the revised terms and that should be enough to see the locally trained runner get his revenge. Caulfields Venture has an excellent record fresh and should not be taken lightly with the Aidan Coleman/Emma Lavelle partnership always respected.

Many Stars (3.50) can take the Beginners’ Chase for Dan Skelton. The selection won a Novice Hurdle at (good to soft) back in March and this ex-point-to-pointer certainly has the scope to jump a fence.

At Going Concern (4.00) reverts to timber having won both recent starts over the larger obstacles. He can race off the same mark as when he won the first of those chase successes and further rain would not inconvenience. He is at the height of his game at present and can land the hat-trick for Evan .

At Emirates Flyer (7.20) has bits of form which make him look an attractive proposition in the Conditions event and it would be a disappointment if he wasn’t able to win following a six-month break. The colt finished 2L runner up to the brilliant but recently retired Kingman in the Gp 3 Solario Stakes as a juvenile and he was last seen finishing runner up in the UAE Derby on a similar surface to tonight at . He is well drawn in stall two and this looks an ideal stepping stone before going on to bigger and better things.

Pollination wouldn’t have to be anything out of the ordinary to make a winning debut for Charlie Appleby in the 7f maiden and first time blinkers brought about some improvement in Bold Spirit, in the colours of Her Majesty the Queen, at last time but the nod goes to Newmarket raider Incredible Fresh (5.50) returning to 7f having looked a non-stayer over a mile at back in August.

The selection has been given a seven-week break since his last start when he travelled well enough at Kempton before finishing weakly over a mile. The handicapper has dropped him 5lbs and Shane Kelly keeps the ride for James Fanshawe.

Perspicace (7.50) steps up to 2m for the first time having finished runner up in Handicap company at Kempton last month for Roger Charlton. James Doyle was in the plate at Kempton and the suggestion is that it was his recommendation to step the son of Sir Percy up in trip. The filly Strawberry Martini looks the one to beat having finished runner up at (1m 6f) last month but Perspicace certainly wasn’t stopping at Kempton last time and can break his maiden tag at the fifth time of asking.
