John Musker Fillies’ Stakes Is Highlight Of Yarmouth’s Eastern Festival

By

Excellent midweek racing on both sides of the Irish Sea including the middle day of Yarmouth's Eastern Festival where the feature event is the listed John Musker Fillies' Stakes over 10 furlongs. Three year olds have won this particular event six times in the last seven years and the progressive Water Hole is likely to go off market leader having run well behind Fintry in the Group 3 Atalanta Stakes last time over the extended mile. There is every chance she will be at least as effective over this trip but she is reluctantly overlooked in favour of one of the older fillies.

Albasharah (3.25) has won first time both seasons to date so her 418-day absence from the track is not considered a negative especially when you consider she has been well entered up in recent weeks. She didn't quite get home in the Lancashire last July over 12f, has ideal conditions, a good draw and the booking of Frederik Tylicki shows how far the jockey has come in recent months. Regular pilot Silvestre De Souza rides Agent Allison for and this is a big ride for Tylicki.

It would be fair to say that things haven't gone to plan for Endless Credit (4.00) so far this season and the experiment with dropping back to a mile has been discarded after he didn't find much let down at last time. Back up to 10f he must go well for inform and classic winning jockey Andrea Atzeni.

The sprint handicap for 3-y-olds which ends the card is an excellent race with a number of unexposed types in the field. Eleusis beat a subsequent nine length winner 6L over today's C&D last time and is sure to have her supporters but debut winner Crazy Chic (5.30) ran well against older horses at and Martin Harley takes over from a 5lb claimer.

At Sandown the newcomers will do well to hunt up the two recent C&D winners Latharnach and Time Test (3.05) in the juvenile conditions race and the latter gets the vote for Roger Charlton. The selection's recent win has been franked by the third and fourth already and he is taken to beat the Godolphin runner who is returning from a seven week break. Both colts' hold entries in a number of the big end-of-season juvenile events and it promises to be a fascinating duel between the pair.

The lightly-raced Shama's Crown (4.45) went one better at Windsor over a mile last time having finished runner up on debut at Doncaster over today's 10f trip. keeps the ride and she is open to considerable improvement for the Jeremy Noseda stable.

The Kerry National is the big race across the Irish Sea and rides top-weight Alderwood who was joint favourite for the Galway Plate when brought down off this mark last time. There is no reason why he won't get this 3m trip but is overlooked in favour of Jacksonslady (4.40)also in the colours of JP McManus who should have the ideal underfoot conditions, gets on well with Barry Geraghty and can reward each way support at 12/1 with BetVictor. Usual Smurfer and (7s) and Balnaslow (14s) are others to consider in an excellent renewal of this valuable chase.

Altruistic is an interesting runner in the Listed contest having finished third in the Racing Post Trophy as a juvenile form that doesn't look too shoddy after last weekend's victories for Kingston Hill and The Grey Gatsby. He has a bit to prove returning from a 4 month lay-off, however, but if the market spoke in his favour he might be worth a second glance. The nod goes to Tarana (3.35) who won at Galway last week in this listed grade for John Oxx and can follow up under her optimum conditions.
