George Baker Has Great Brighton Chance Aboard Fieldsman

by Charlie McCann

Danny Tudhope and David O’Meara were the big winners on Saturday as G-Force won the Haydock Sprint Cup at to land both jockey and trainer their first success at Group One level. George Baker had earlier led ‘s Captain Cat to G3 success in the Superior Mile and he can continue his excellent run of form aboard Ed Dunlop’s Fieldsman (3.00) at .

The Hard Spun colt has been placed in two of his three starts but was a beaten favourite when finishing second at Newmarket last month. Prior to that, he had ran subsequent Accomb Stakes winner Dutch Connection to three lengths at and on that form he looks the one to beat.

There’s excellent summer jump from and Newton-Abbot, with Barry Geraghty a notable jockey crossing the Irish Sea at the latter. Geraghty partners Nicholas Chauvin (5.10) in the closing bumper on the card for boss Nicky Henderson after riding the 6-y-o to two thirds at Ludlow and Kelso last term. The selection disappointed at Southwell subsequently, but remains with the potential to improve and is ultimately in good hands at Seven Barrows.

Allthekingshorses is worth taking on in the card’s opener, a winner at in May but struggled with his jumping and Phillip Hobbs’ 8-y-o is opposable with Barlow (2.40) getting the nod for Warren Greatrex and Noel Fehily. The selection runs from a career-high mark of 131 but was impressive when landing a gamble at Chepstow back in March and although misfiring since in higher company, can return to winning ways with the assistance of first-time tongue tie.

The Hobbs team look set to miss out again with the stable’s hat-trick seeking Lamb or Cod taken on with ‘s Ainsi Fideles (3.40) in the novices’ chase. The 4-y-o has taken advantage of the favourable weight-for-age scale winning three times over fences over the summer and should be go in again in receipt of an ultimately significant 13lb.

Lucinda Russell’s locally-trained Clondaw Knight (3.50) can land the feature handicap chase at Perth, dropping down in trip to tackle two miles for the first time since making a winning return last term at Kelso. The selection was impressive under Peter Buchanan when winning off the back of a break in November and can continue the trend further from top weight.

Alistair Whillans’ Gleann Na Ndochais will be a warm favourite for the three miles’ handicap chase after scoring at the track last time out but Irish raider Ultra Light (4.50) weighted to turn the form around under Brian Hughes. The selection was travelling comfortably before a mistake late on and has since followed-up with an excellent third in a warm race at Bangor. Robbie Hennessey’s mare returns on 12lb better term and should reverse the form over the longer trip.

There’s racing in Ireland at Galway with Archangel Raphael (4.35) the most interesting runner on the card, making his second start after an excellent debut last month at . The well-bred colt pulled clear with Dermot Weld’s 1/3 on favourite Postulation and with a run under his belt should be better for the experience. Connections won the corresponding race last year and with Carlo Bugatti and the son of Montjeu boasting several sexy entries; he could prove something rather special.

Ballydoyle run five in the fillies’ listed race over a mile and a half however Dermot Weld’s Ebeyina (6.35) looks a cut above and should take all the beating. The daughter of Oasis Dream is bred to relish the forecast better ground and can build on an excellent third in a similar event when last seen at in July.
