Afternoon action comes courtesy of Ffos Las and Catterick with Berland (2.15) taken to give Michael Bell a rare winner in the Yorkshire track’s opener. The Cape Cross colt was well-supported on debut last month at Yarmouth, staying on well to snatch second in the final strides and should be able to build on that and is fancied to get the better of James Tate’s filly La Estatua.
There’s evening racing from Ripon and Kempton with an excellent seven race card at the latter sponsored by BetVictor with Jeremy Noseda’s Moonvoy (6.30) fancied in the BetVictor.com Maiden Fillies’ Stakes over a mile.
The filly is another exciting progeny of Cape Cross and ran an excellent third on her first visit to a racetrack in the Wood Ditton at Newmarket, a race that has thrown up five subsequent winners in behind. Her disappointing run last time out coincided with the stable going through a quiet patch but with the Noseda team now flying she can shed the maiden tag at the third attempt under Champion Jockey Richard Hughes.
John Gosden’s string remain in excellent nick and his Venturous Spirit is respected on handicap debut however Ed Vaughan’s Si Senor (7.00) looks the value against him in the Follow BetVictorRacing on twitter Handicap. The selection was an impressive scorer at the track in the spring and was far from disgraced when third from a 4lb higher mark on his next start; he should remain competitive.
Roger Charlton’s Sleep Walk (9.00) looks to have plenty in hand over the handicapper, maintaining her unbeaten record in her first start outside of maiden company last week at Leicester. The Oasis Dream filly won with bundles in hand that day and was backed accordingly (4/5f) and never looking like losing. As long as she can translate her turf form to the all-weather she should complete the hat-trick in the Download the BetVictor App Now Handicap.
The Mark Johnston stable enjoyed an excellent week at Glorious Goodwood with four winners and Summer Times (6.15) can give the stable further success in the opener at Ripon. Joe Fanning partnered all four winners for Johnston and rides the colt in the six furlongs maiden bidding to make it third time lucky. Although disappointing last time out at Catterick when beaten at odds-on he did himself no favours when hanging badly before staying on again and is well worth another chance with the stable continuing through a purple patch.
The pair combine with Sir Frank Morgan (8.15) over the marathon trip and whilst the 4-y-o isn’t without his quirks, he is guaranteed to stay the trip and warrants another chance after finishing down the field last time out at Ascot. Prior to that the selection bolted up at Catterick and should remain competitive from a 4lb higher mark.
Dandy Nicholls’ Inxile bids to follow-up last week’s Goodwood success under a penalty in the feature sprint handicap in what looks on paper, a big ask for the old boy. Paul Midgeley is double-handed with Silvanus and Oldjoesaid and whilst both are respected Tim Easterby’s Captain Dunne (7.45) gets the nod to make it three wins from his last four starts.
The selection won despite less than ideal ground last month at Haydock and followed up that success two weeks later winning a similar contest at Thirsk, apprentice Rachel Richardson using her excellent 7lb claim on both occasions. She partners the 9-y-o once more and is taken to carry on winning ways from the plumb draw in stall one.
