Tips

This is where you will find all of Racing Ahead’s tips for race meetings, the Cheltenham Festival, the Grand National, the Epsom Derby Meeting, Glorious Goodwood and Royal Ascot.

Kelso takes centre stage on Thursday

A wonderful midweek card at Kelso this afternoon and AP McCoy is back in Scotland after his winner at Ayr on Tuesday and has an excellent chance in the opener courtesy of Jack Steel (2.00) whose chance might not be too obvious at first glance but went into my fictional notebook at Wetherby last time when he was tenderly handled.

AP McCoy can land Chepstow opener aboard Sebastian Beach

Today’s Chepstow meeting will be run on perfect jumping ground and the AP McCoy roadshow moves to south Wales where I expect to see him land the opener aboard Jonjo O’Neill’s Sebastian Beach (1.50) who will certainly appreciate the drying ground.

Plus Jamais has an excellent opportunity at Ayr

BetVictor sponsor the card at Ayr this afternoon and in the handicap chase over the minimum trip I felt Plus Jamais (3.50) ran well against two decent sorts over C&D last month and looks to have found an excellent opportunity for Jim Goldie and Brian Hughes.

AP McCoy gets timing right again to announce retirement

It came as a shock to many but, as he has done throughout his long and distinguished career, AP McCoy had the timing just about right in announcing his retirement from the saddle at the end of the current jumps season live on Channel 4 on Saturday after 25 years in the saddle.

Newbury hoping Saturday’s card can beat the freeze

Frost and snow have wiped out today’s turf meetings but Newbury are cautiously optimistic that Saturday’s card can beat the current freeze with temperatures forecast to rise later in the week. The big betting race is the Betfair Hurdle and Calipto currently heads the market at 9/2 with BetVictor with Activial 7s and Sign Of A Victory 12s.

Kempton Park take centre stage after cold snap

No turf racing today because of the frost which has claimed both Sedgefield and Market Rasen but Kempton Park envisage no problems, despite the cold snap, for their all-weather card this afternoon and they stage a competitive six-race card.

Gimme Five expected to shine on Deadline Day

Some competitive racing at Lingfield to start the week and Gimme Five (2.15) beat Deadline Day, indeed it is, at Wolverhampton off a 7lbs lower mark when last seen back in October and might be up to defying the rise.

Grand National hope Teaforthree to feature at Warwick

Warwick passed an 8am inspection and we have a cracking card to look forward to including the Hunter Chase debut of Teaforthree (3.50) who is currently 25/1 for the Grand National at Aintree in the spring. The horse finished third behind Aurora’s Encore in the 2013 National but was not at his best in the 2014 renewal when he unseated at the Chair.

Trust Thomas tipped to go one better at Ayr

Today’s BetVictor sponsored card from Ayr survived an 8am inspection. There is a cracking handicap chase over the minimum trip to open the card and Trust Thomas (12.40) can go one better than when runner up at Newcastle last time from a 3lb lower mark.

Leicester and Wetherby up against the weather

Leicester and Wetherby both need to pass morning inspections before racing this afternoon and fingers crossed they do with an excellent card at the latter and thirteen runners declared for the feature handicap chase over an extended three miles.

Saturdays Racing viewed by Charlie

The Clarence House Chase (formerly known as the Victor Chandler Chase) and the eagerly-awaited return of Sprinter Sacre (3.00) is the Grade 1 highlight from Ascot this afternoon. The former Champion Chaser ………

Four National Hunt meetings make for fantastic Thursday

Wednesday saw Newcastle lose its battle with the elements however all four National Hunt meetings look to be given the green light for an excellent day of jump racing action. The afternoon’s feature comes from Thurles with Don Cossack and Champagne Fever meeting in an excellent renewal of the G2 Kinlock Brae Chase over two and a half miles.

Novice with bright future Sugar Baron stars at Newbury

There’s a fabulous card this afternoon at Newbury, with promising second season novices’ Dawalan and Cole Harden successful on the corresponding card last term. The latter is 16/1 with BetVictor to give trainer Warren Greatrex a first Cheltenham Festival success in the World Hurdle at the festival in the spring.

Mick Appleby hoping for a terrific Tuesday at Southwell

It must be sodden down in South Wales to have Ffos Las abandoned, leaving this afternoon’s action from Fakenham and Southwell respectively. The latter looks sure to go ahead irrespective of the weather forecast and could prove yet another successful day on the fibresand for locally-based trainer Mick Appleby.

Ayr beaten by the weather as Plumpton take centre stage

Ayr’s meeting this afternoon has been abandoned with weekend storm’s causing structural damage to the track’s buildings. With the weather forecast unlikely to improve clerk of the course Emma Marley deemed the track too unsafe, leaving this afternoon sole jump meeting at Plumpton.

Windy Saturdays Racing

An excellent card from Warwick this afternoon and, although I am in danger of following the horse off a cliff, I must give……..

Intense Tango should go one better at Catterick

Catterick stage an excellent card this afternoon and there was plenty of money on track for Intense Tango (12.40) in a decent listed race at Aintree on his hurdles debut for Karl Burke last month and this 70-rated performer on the level should go one better in the opening juvenile hurdle.
