Still no sign of star two milers as Sacre misses Sandown

There’s something of a surreal feel to the ante-post market for the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in March. Neither of the two market leaders having been seen this season, and there are significant fitness and health questions to answer for both the former champion Sprinter Sacre, and current title holder Sire de Grugy.

Champagne Fever may be too much for Sizing Europe

A wonderful renewal of the Grade 2 Clonmel Oil Chase is the afternoon feature with that wonderful old warrior Sizing Europe trying to give weight (11lbs) and a beating to Champagne Fever (2.20) and that might be a bridge too far for Henry De Bromhead’s stable star.

Musselburgh present first jumps card of the season

The first jumps card of the season at Musselburgh will be run on good ground this afternoon although showers are forecast. Roserrow is likely to be a warm order for the Novices’ Hurdle having won at Sedgefield last time for Donald McCain but he must give 7lbs to hurdling debutant Crinkle Crags and Narcissist (1.30) with the latter getting the vote for Mick Easterby whose string are in such good form.
