Trainer Wesley Ward has hinted connections could call time on Lady Aurelia’s career after a disappointing showing at Royal Ascot.
Lady Aurelia went into the showpiece as the pre-race favourite but she finished seventh.
Ward reports the American filly to be in good health and he is unsure why she failed to deliver, having previously claimed Queen Mary and King‘s Stand victories at Royal Ascot.
The trainer is unsure what the future holds for Lady Aurelia and even suggested her owners may decide to retire the four-year-old.
“Lady Aurelia came out of it great,” he said, as reported by Sky Sports. “We got the Ascot veterinarian team to check her out after the race and a couple of days later and she scoped clear and trotted out perfect. It just wasn’t her day.”
When asked if his charge’s best days may be behind her, Ward replied: “It’s tough to say. She’s coming home and we’ll get the veterinarian team to check her out again and see if something pops up.
“I had lunch with the owners on Thursday and we didn’t really talk about it [the future]. That decision [on retirement] isn’t mine to make.”
