Harry Bentley is relishing his reunion with Limato after being recalled to ride him in the Darley July Cup at Newmarket on July 15.
Owner Paul Jacobs has gone back to Bentley in the hope he can emulate his success with the five-year-old 12 months ago in the same race.
Ryan Moore partnered Limato in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot when Bentley was replaced after a defeat in Dubai in March.
But with Moore pencilled in to ride Aidan O’Brien‘s Commonwealth Cup winner Caravaggio, the door has opened again to Bentley.
He said: “Obviously I am delighted to get back on him as I have ridden him six times before.
“He gave me a fantastic day at Newmarket last year in the July Cup and another great one at Chantilly in the Prix de la Foret. He is the best horse I have ridden.
“I knew Ryan Moore was going to ride Caravaggio if he runs, which he is highly likely to, and in the back of your mind you are hoping you might get that phone call, but it came out of the blue when I got told the news this morning.
“I made it clear at the time I was disappointed and, I don’t mean to coin an old phrase, but these things happen in racing – the main thing is I’ve got another chance.”
Bentley added: “It is not the most straightforward layout at Newmarket and it is a definite positive that he goes on the track. He is one of the main contenders and I think he has a massive chance.”
