Trainer Tom George has confirmed that God’s Own will take a short mid-season break, with a return in the spring being planned.
The eight-year-old came home third on his most recent start in the Tingle Creek at Sandown despite the ground being softer than ideal.
God’s Own has enjoyed a hugely successful 2016, with seven runs in total and no finishes outside of the top four.
George has confirmed the gelding will take a short break and feels there is a lot to come as he gears up for a trip to Cheltenham for the Champion Chase.
“He is having a month off after his run in the Tingle Creek,” George said. “I would say we will start riding him again in the second week in January, to build him back up for the spring festivals.
“There are going to be very few options to run him before Cheltenham. Last season he ran in a graduation chase [at Kempton] which he can’t do this year.
“There is the Grade One at Ascot at the beginning of February, but that is usually run on soft ground.
“I know him well enough to get him ready and go straight there (Cheltenham). I’m totally happy whichever way we go with him.
“He has had a better first half of the season than he ever has before and I think he is improving still.”
God’s Own could be set for a return at Cheltenham, and don’t forget to keep your eye on the form as we get closer towards the exciting Cheltenham Festival
