Following media speculation, Animal Rising can confirm that it will not be present at this year’s .

In 2023, Animal Rising attempted to halt the eponymous Grand race to protect the from harm, resulting in race delays and mass arrests.

Today, Ben Newman, Animal Rising spokesperson and one of those arrested at the Grand National in 2023, commented: “While Animal Rising lives on rent-free in the Jockey Club’s mind, we will not protest this year’s Grand National.

We are united with animal lovers across the UK in condemning the cruelty of – a so-called “sport” built on exploitation and suffering.

“Horse racing is an outdated relic that prioritises gambling and spectacle over animal welfare. Horses are pushed beyond their limits, whipped, and discarded when they no longer serve profit.

The British public increasingly rejects this cruelty, and we agree – this barbaric “sport” needs to be put out to pasture.

“I really hope that there aren’t any fatalities at Aintree – but every week, British horse racing continues to claim numerous innocent lives. The odds will never be in the horses’ favour.”

Multiple trials are due to take place later this year following the 118 arrests at the 2023 event, with defendants charged with causing a public nuisance.

This week on 4th April, Animal Rising campaigners will also attend a plea hearing regarding the disruption of the races in 2023, also facing charges of public nuisance.
