Carmarthen and its surrounding villages has produced many fine sportsmen - primarily masters of the oval ball. The names of Barry John, Ken Owens, Gerald Davies, and Phil Bennett spring immediately to mind.
And there was a time when another boy from the town, Ben Jones could have pursued a future, and possibly a propitious one, too, on the rugby field. He was a fly half for Carmarthen Quins and had just attained county level.
