Day one of the Glorious Goodwood looks befitting of the current weather we are having and I’m anticipating a corker of a day.
Hopefully TONY MONTANA can kick us off to a good start as he looks a solid bet in the opener. Michael Bell has rejuvenated this talented individual and has got him performing consistently well. The only blot on his copy book this year has been at Ascot where e found the trip too far but he bounced back straight away at York with a solid third coming from well off the pace. He was the one I took out of that race given he made up so much ground compared to the horses that finished around him. He remains well weighted and conditions look in his favour today. I’m expecting a big run.
I think every man and his dog has picked up on the claims of JM JUNGLE in the 4.10 as he has moved in from 10/1 yesterday to 4/1 now. John Quinn’s 4 year old showed his well being with a big run in a competitive handicap at the Curragh recently and a repeat of that performance should be enough here. That wasn’t the only time he has threatened to win a big one this year as he has also run good races at Musselburgh and York. Today’s race could set up perfectly for him.
I will however have a saver on DEMOCRACY DILEMMA who threatens to be a bit better than a handicapper. Another morning of the sun drying the ground will certainly help him as he is a fast horse who could be very hard to peg back if allowed an easy lead. The fast 5f here should really suit.
I’m willing to excuse EXECUTIVE DECISION’s poor run at Ascot recently as it turned out to be a messy race where the running order didn’t change much from start to finish. She should be seen to better effect today in the race she won last year against her own sex. Her earlier run at Epsom is top form and a repeat of that will see her go close to defending her crown.
