Bens Day 1 Newmarket Tips

It’s Day 1 of the meeting today as we look set for a high quality 3 days worth of action on the July course. I’ll be using today as a guide for the rest of the week so I’m not going in heavy on anything but there are a few who will have the burden of my money on them.

The July Stakes market would suggest Whistlejacket has a penalty kick here but I think it is far from that given Aidan doesn’t know his best trip. I’d suggest 5f is his trip but defeat in the Norfolk has casted doubt in ‘ mind but I am of the opinion that that is his level. I’d be much more interested in Ain’t Nobody or ELECTROLYTE here and it’s the latter that I am going to plump for. Archie Watson’s charge was just touched off in the Coventry at the Royal meeting and that race is often a strong form line for the winners of this race. The fact we know he stays 6f already is a big positive as the softer conditions possibly on offer here will certainly test a few in the final furlong but his pedigree suggests he will stay further if needed so at 10/3 I’m more than happy to take a punt on him.

The 6f Heritage Handicap is often a bit of a minefield for punters and it hasn’t been too kind to me in recent years having been touched off on the line more than once. However, I’m glutton for punishment and I’m keen to go in again. I’ve had a win only bet on TROPICAL ISLAND who was a big eye catcher at last time out and with that run under her belt I hope she can go a few places better. Oisin Orr seemingly neglects her but I will chance her again. At bigger prices, THUNDER BLUE is an interesting one. Connections rejuvenated Executive Decision last season and it seems that they could be doing the same with this lad. A speedy two year old, he ran respectably on his first start for this yard at where he shaped as if the step up to 6f would suit. He comes here off a nice weight and if drawn on the right side I expect him to be in the shake up.
