Dylan Cunha is adamant that SILVER SWORD is a top notcher and although he has shown some decent form this season, you would like to see him win a big one to reward that faith. I’m hoping today can be the day as he lines up over the mile on good ground. Soft conditions were against him last time at Goodwood so you can ignore that run and he is probably better judged on his win at Pontefract and 3rd at Epsom. If arriving in similar form then he must go well here.
York 5.15 – Silver Sword

Ebor Day looks a belter at York tomorrow and I’ve struggled to keep the tips down to a reasonable amount.
The Melrose is always a race I enjoy punting on with a reasonable degree of success in recent seasons. I’m keen on a few here but I’ve narrowed it down to 2 here starting with MIDDLE EARTH. John Gosden‘s horse would have serious stamina doubts over his head looking at breeding alone but in his 3 performances so far you would have to give him every chance. He’s interesting as he could literally be anything still as his form hasn’t really been tested so at 10/1 I’m willing to give him a chance.
At a bigger price I thought CHILLHI might be worth a little bit of each way support as he has been so consistent this season without having much luck. He will stay and if the unexposed ones falter then he might be there to pick up the pieces.
In the big one itself it is very hard to ignore the claims of the favourite SWEET WILLIAM who has looked like a group performer in all his starts this season. Whether it be good ground at Newbury or heavy ground at Goodwood he has travelled powerfully and put his race to bed comfortably. The form is very strong so running here off a mark of 95, he might just be a good thing.
At a bigger price I think HMS PRESIDENT could be good value as he seems to have taken his form up a notch this season. Alan King has spaced his runs a little which he seems to be benefitting from and he too is ground versatile so won’t mind the surface tomorrow. At 18/1 he is a sound each way play.
In the finale I hope HAVE SECRET can finally have his big day as he has been running so well this season. A second at Goodwood last time was unfortunate as he appeared to bump into one but it was another effort which suggested he should be able to take advantage of his mark sooner rather than later. He receives a good bit of weight here and I’m hopeful he will go close as a consequence.
York 2.25 – Middle Earth / Chillhi
York 3.35 – Sweet William / HMS President
York 5.20 – Have Secret
