A nice mix of flat and junps awaits us this Saturday and I have a selection in both codes.
First up over the sticks at Haydock is TOO FRIENDLY for the Skelton team in the opening 2m handicap hurdle. He has travelled powerfully into last two races over further but hasn’t quite seen it out, last time more notably so, so the drop in trip should really suit. His earlier second at Cheltenham reads well in comparison to the form on offer here and I’d hope he might just be too good for these.
Up at Musselburgh the 1.50 tends to go the way of the Charlie (Mark) Johnston yard and I think it might be a similar story this year. The yard have won 3 of the last 4 renewals of this and considering A low draw looks to be a distinct advantage also I find it hard to see why FINN’S CHARM is 10/1. He shed his maiden tag here in impressive fashion before setting an electric pace in the Chesham at Royal Ascot. He was well fancied for a few hot races after that but it’s possible that he was cooked after some strong efforts early in the season. I’m hoping the winter break has freshened him up and if it has a mark of 92 could certainly under estimate him.
Haydock 1.30 – Too Friendly
Musselburgh 1.50 – Finn’s Charm
