Saturday
Tomorrows racing at Sandown is a good teaser for what is to come next week at Cheltenham. Although many will be keeping their powder dry, there are a few interesting types which catch my eye.
First up in the Imperial Cup is MONVIEL who is completely unexposed and should appreciate the softer ground. Philip Hobbs’ horse burst onto the scene last season and proved that was no fluke by hosing up on his reappearance this season. A solid 5th, staying on from the back of the pack in a good ground Betfair Hurdle was a great effort and if reproducing that form on this ground I think he is a good bet at 9/1.
Another horse who I think could show improved form on this softer ground is LAC DE CONSTANCE for the Skelton team. He looked a very good novice earlier in the season but surprisingly got turned over last time out on good ground. That run was too bad to be true and I’m willing to forgive him that. Dan Skelton has found a nice opportunity for him to get his season back on track. I think he’s better than a handicapper, hopefully he shows it here.
I was keen on MOVEWITHTHECHAINS last time but he made a mess of the last and couldn’t muster a challenge after that. He had to concede a lot of weight that day and should be much more suited to the conditions he faces today. Gary Moore has a fine record around his local course, especially on a Saturday, so I’m hopeful he can prove better than his current mark.
Sandown 2.25 – Monviel
Sandown 3.35 – Lac De Constance
Sandown 4.10 – Movethechains
