Kingman’s brother, Sunray Major, is likely to take up the majority of market attention in the finale at Ascot today. He could well be a group horse in a handicap but in situations like this I see it as an opportunity to have a punt on something each way, almost like a free hit.
A horse like CLIFFS OF CAPRI looks of tremendous value at 14/1 as he loves Ascot and often saves his best for the course. You can ignore his run last time as they literally crawled to the 2 pole which wouldn’t have suited his hold up style of racing. His earlier runs here over 7f are of much more worth and if he reproduce that form he will go close at a tasty price.

Ascot specialists are the order of the weekend as I’m putting two up in the 3.50. DOCUMENTING ran a blinder last time out when not suited to the slow pace as he stayed on into second. The fact he finished so close is testament to the horse’s ability and also suggests he should be winning again soon.
If he doesn’t do the business then ESCOBAR will surely go close anyway. I’d rather connections wait for the Balmoral in a couple of weeks time but he has been holding his form so well this season it is hard not to get tempted at a pot like this. I have lost count of the times I have tipped him this season but he hasn’t lost me any money yet and his day is not far away I am sure.
Similar comments apply to Scottish Summit who runs at Redcar but I have managed to avoid backing him at the moment but if the ground turns soft I may get tempted as his hold up style would be suited to a soft ground Redcar 7f.
One horse who I am definitely backing tomorrow at Redcar is MOT AND THE MESSER who has proven to be a bit in and out when stepped up in grade this season. Tom Dasccombe’s horse has some solid form in the book but hasn’t been able to mix it at the top table for one reason or another so far this year but I think tomorrow may be his day. If Tom Eaves can get him to the front I think he could be quite hard to peg back at a track which favours runners who race prominently. It isn’t the strongest 2 year old Trophy Redcar has ever put on and he looks like real value at 12/1.
