Tom Scudamore isn’t getting too carried away by Cloth Cap’s emergence as the market leader for next month’s Grand National.
Scudamore had steered Cloth Cap to victory on his last two outings, winning by seven-and-a-half-lengths at Kelso on Saturday.
With the Grand National, which takes place on April 10, fast approaching, Scudamore is hoping to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather Michael who won the showpiece race on Oxo 62 years ago.
He finished sixth on Vieux Lion Rouge in 2017 but nine-year-old Cloth Cap is highly-fancied to top the field at Aintree.
Despite lots of expectation surrounding his charge the jockey is trying his best to remain grounded over the coming weeks.
“It would be great,” Scudamore said, at the prospect of winning the National.
“But you’re trying not to get too carried away. There’s plenty of racing in between – a big week at Cheltenham coming up, for starters.
“I wouldn’t be one to get carried away too far with it – we’ll just get on, go and do the business as best we can.”
