Balding sets sights on QEII
Andrew Balding is hoping to see Kameko get back to winning ways in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes in October.
The three-year-old returned from a 218-day break to win the Qipco 2000 Guineas in June, beating Wichita by a neck.
However, he hasn’t been able to follow up that victory and is currently sitting on three successive fourth-place finishes.
Despite Kameko’s recent struggles, Balding insists he hasn’t lost faith and feels his star can strike on Qipco British Champions Day.
“He’s great – he’s just having some down time, and hopefully we’ll head to Qipco Champions Day for the QEII,” Balding told Sky Sports Racing.
“I just feel like we’ve been learning as we go along, and I probably should have had a better idea at the beginning of the season what his best trip is.
“He’s a horse with a lot of speed and a lot of class, and I think a mile is right for him this season.”
