Paddy Pilley, Apprentice to Mick Channon, was crowned Champion of the Racing Excellence CGA Salisbury Series title on Thursday 3rd September.
The final race of the Series was a close finish as Paddy was denied his third winner of the five-race series by Rhiain Ingram, who was riding Ivors Involvement for David Elsworth. Rhiain held on to win by a neck. Despite not winning the final race Pilley held his position at the top of the table, 3 points in front of his closest rival Gary Mahon. Paddy received £1000 for winning the Series, Gary Mahon 2nd in the leader board was awarded £500, in joint 3rd was Josh Quinn and Rhiain Ingram both took home £125 each.
Throughout the series jockeys have attended a mandatory course walk with one of the BHA Jockey Coaches and have been awarded place points. 1st – 10 points, 2nd – 6 points, 3rd – 4 points, 4th – 3 points, 5th – 2 points and 6th – 1 point. As part of the Series conditions and rules Jockeys are not allowed to use their sticks but they can pull the stick through as often as necessary.

It was a strong series with some very talented young sportsmen and women taking part. A huge well done to Paddy Pilley on winning the Series he has shown not only a good professional attitude to race riding but a strong technique in riding a finish.”
