Minding is 4/5 at BetVictor for the Oaks after her comprehensive win in the 1000 Guineas on Sunday but there must be doubts about her staying the 12f trip on breeding and it might be a good idea if we look for an each way alternative.
Having saddled the 1-2-3 in the Newmarket Classic it might appear foolish to look at yet another Aidan O'Brien-trained filly for the Oaks but I am really looking forward to seeing Somehow (20/1 for Epsom with BetVictor) run at Chester tomorrow and recommend an each way interest for the fillies' classic next month.
Today's highlight is the Norfolk National at Fakenham when they past the judge no less than four times; dizziness is likely to be an issue with horse and jockey but the hope is that Nail'M (3.30) can do just that for Nigel Hake and jockey Jamie Moore down the foot of the weights.
The selection is a dour stayer who improved for first time blinkers when runner up at Exeter last time and would not be inconvenienced if any of the forecast heavy showers hit the track. Sandy Thompson makes the long journey south from his base in the Scottish Borders with Harry The Viking and the veteran, formerly owned by Sir Alex Ferguson, has been knocking on the door of late.
At Brighton Tomily (2.20) can make it third time lucky for Richard Hannon having been beaten less than a length in a decent event at Newmarket at the Craven meeting; the yard still believe the colt is a decent sort but he will have to win well if he is to have a date at Royal Ascot next month.
At Exeter this evening we are guaranteed a true gallop in the feature 2m 4f Handicap Chase with Next Sensation a confirmed front-runner for Michael Scudamore and a chance is taken on Such A Legend (7.15) who certainly has the scope for fences and who ran an excellent race at Uttoxeter back in the autumn on his chase debut. The selection has to put behind a poor effort at Ludlow last time although he did track what was a suicidal pace on that occasion.
Get Involved (6.45) is 7lbs higher than when runner up here last month but continued his progression when runner up at Cheltenham last time and is taken to go one better for Robin Dickin whose string remain in top form.
The opener sees some of the bigger West Country yards represented and Aston Cantlow (5.45) was just getting into the race when coming down three out at Chepstow last time; the selection won his Bumper on decent ground in Ireland a couple of years ago and can get off the mark over timber at the age of eight.
Half his age is the Paul Nicholls-trained Moabit who was a dual winner on the flat in France and shaped with plenty of promise at Doncaster back in January on his sole start for the yard. He is well up to winning over hurdles but the Hobbs yard won this corresponding race 12 months ago with Stern Rubin and Aston Cantlow can follow up for the yard.
