Pendleton fifth as Fringe wins again

On The Fringe won the Foxhunter Chase for the second year in a row as finished fifth on Pacha Du Polder.

Pendleton sat in rear for large parts of the contest as her mount jumped soundly throughout before picking off from the top of the hill.

Pacha Du Polder stayed on in great style after the last fence to claim a few more places and was a running-on fifth behind the Nina Carberry-ridden On The Fringe.

There was a line of four horses in the lead through the first circuit as Alskamatic, Current Exchange, Impact Area and Richmond took them along before Major Malarkey took over turning into the home straight for the first time.

Olympic gold medallist Pendleton, meanwhile, was navigating her way around the course safely and allowed Pacha Du Polder, who was a doubtful stayer, to slowly creep into things from the rear.

On The Fringe briefly looked in trouble turning into the home straight as Aupcharlie appeared a likely winner.

However, Carberry cajoled a fine jump out of the favourite at the last fence and On The Fringe stayed on well up the hill to beat Marito by a neck, with Paint The Clouds in third.

Pacha Du Polder and Pendleton were eating up the ground on the run to the line and were not beaten far as the former cyclist's decision to compete at the was fully vindicated.
