Afternoon racing comes from Wolverhampton and Ayr with Maraakib (3.00) a fascinating runner at the latter making his debut for the David O'Meara stable. The Malton-based handler boasts an excellent record with rejuvenating horses and would be a confident selection to make full advantage of a career-low mark should the market speak in his favour.
Luca Cumani's Handbell (4.45) landed a gamble under Adam Kirby at Wolverhampton 18 days ago and is a confident selection to follow-up making her debut in Handicap Company from an opening mark of 72. The well-bred daughter of Acclamation was well-backed when shedding the maiden tag in impressive fashion and should prove even better now up in trip and handicapping.
Henry Candy's boasts an excellent strike-rate at Windsor this term and can continue the handler's excellent run of form with Noble Peace (6.20) in the 6f Maiden. The selection was unable to follow-up his excellent effort on debut when unsuited by the slower ground last time out over course and distance however back on his preferred sounder surface can see him shed the maiden tag at the third time of asking.
My Major (6.50) made a promising debut earlier in the season at Bath and, with the form of that race working out subsequently, Clive Cox's son of Holy Roman Emperor can make it second time lucky under JP Fahy. The selection chased home the 78-rated Frostman on debut and with the third and the fourth both winning since he can frank the form at the expense of biggest danger Regal Miss.
There's a decent evening card at Thirsk where Foreign Diplomat (7.00) looks set to score for William Haggas and Pat Cosgrave. The gelding reverts back to the minimum trip after failing to see out those races over both 6f and 7f and is taken to relish the cavalry charge set by the pace-setting pair of You're Cool and Uptight.
Trainer Michael Dods has been fortunate to have some smart fillies in his stable at the moment and What Could She Be (8.00) looks another potentially useful one and can give weight and a beating to her nine rivals in the 7f Handicap. The selection remains unexposed after just five visits to a racecourse and despite yet to shed the maiden tag has two excellent efforts in defeat at Southwell on the all-weather. The daughter of Dark Angel was far from disgraced when finishing fifth at the track on her first start for over six months last time out and should be stripped fitter to give another bold bid.
Jamie Osbourne's Tuco is another yet to shed the maiden tag despite placing on all four career starts and will be fancied to make it fifth time lucky this evening however it could be worth taking a chance on Roger Varian's Shamlan (8.30). The gelding boasts a smart pedigree and looks to have been well-placed to make a winning debut under Jack Mitchell.
